04/09/2010 - Fourths (21) v Old Ashmoleans 2nd XV (17)Camelot's 3rd and 4th teams combined for a friendly fixture against Old Ashmoleans to kick-start their season and to blow out some of the cobwebs from the summer. The game was played in quarters of 20 minutes and with Camelot using rolling subs perhaps the team wasn't gelling as well as it would under normal match circumstances. At half time they were down 12 - 0 (two tries and one conversion). The second half saw a considerable improvement, and the final quarter was the best spell of rugby from Camelot's perspective. They came out eventual winners 21 - 17 with Matt Caviggia grabbing a brace and Gerry Vermeulen scoring the final try in the last play of the game - the difference being 3 successful conversion kicks to one.
Not a bad start to the season and the newcomers, both to the club and to the game itself, played exceptionally well but Camelot won't want to leave it leave it as late as they did last season to start winning the non-friendly matches.
